Welcome to St. Petersburg

Coastal community with miles of beaches and world-class dining establishments.

St. Petersburg is a city in Pinellas County, nestled on the shores of Florida's Gulf Coast. It is the second-largest city in the Tampa Bay area, with a population of around 270,000. It was established in the 19th century and bought by Peter Demens and John C. Williams in 1988. They flipped a coin to determine the city's name. After Demens' victory, he named it St. Petersburg in honor of St. Petersburg, Russia.

When it comes to sunshine, St. Petersburg holds the record (768 days in a row), according to the Guinness Book of World Records. That is why it has been nicknamed "The Sunshine City." Lucky residents of St. Petersburg get to enjoy its miles of shimmering beaches, dog-friendly parks and establishments, booming economy, and strong culinary and artistic communities. This walkable community is quite small-business friendly, with plenty of unique shops and diners.

What to Love

  • Waterfront parks (North Shore, Vinoy, and Straub) for outdoor recreation
  • The walkability of shops/boutiques/restaurants - from Downtown to the Grand Central District

  • A brand new Sun Runner bus that can take you straight to the beach

  • Home to the Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field and the Tampa Bay Rowdies soccer team

  • The support given to small businesses

Local Lifestyle

St. Petersburg is perfect for anyone looking for an active lifestyle. There is always something to do in this city, no matter the time of day or year. Swimming, snorkeling, kayaking, deep-sea fishing, sailing, and other water-based pursuits are just some of the many things to do here. Many sightseers head to the beach to bask in the sun or play some beach sports like volleyball. Beyond the surf and sand, St. Petersburg also provides visitors with opportunities for quiet reflection and oneness with nature.

Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

Tyrone Square is a family-friendly shopping center with stores catering to youth and adults and a dedicated play area for children. With an array of department stores, shoppers can browse for new fashion-forward items to fill their closets. The Sundial is one of the newest malls in the area, and it offers luxurious shopping, wellness, and dining destinations for locals and visitors alike. High-end retailers, including Tommy Bahama, White House Black Market, and more, can be found here. Head to ZaZoo'd for unique furnishings and gifts, or look to The Merchant for souvenirs and one-of-a-kind finds. For trendy women’s clothing and accessories, peruse the luxurious offerings at Jackie Z Style Co. or MISRED Outfitters. ARTpool Gallery is another great spot if you’re seeking vintage clothing.

Cassis St. Pete is one of the best restaurants in downtown St. Petersburg. You may enjoy a fast lunch or a lavish dinner at this American brasserie, which features indoor and outdoor seating in plush surroundings. Inspired by the George Peabody Library in Baltimore, The Library is an upscale eatery in John Hopkins All Children's Hospital that offers craft cocktails and new American fare. Here, you'll find an escape from your busy day, where the smell of coffee, the thought of a tasty dinner, and the company of friends all await.

The food at Taverna Costale is fantastic, and the atmosphere is a fun cross between a lively neighborhood bar and an elegant modern restaurant. Head to Book + Bottle, Paradeco Cofee Roasters, and Driftwood if you’re seeking a pick-me-up from some amazing coffee selections.

Things to Do

Residents enjoy spending time at the waterfront parks, like North Shore, Vinoy, and Straub, which are perfect for picnics, bike riding, rollerblading, dolphin-watching, kayaking, and other outdoor adventures.

Stroll, cycle, dine, drink, shop, swim, enjoy a concert, and more at St. Pete Pier, which blends the calm blue waters of Tampa Bay with the lush greenery of St. Petersburg's parks. Albert Whitted Park provides prime views of the beautiful Florida sunset, thanks to its location at the southernmost point of St. Petersburg's downtown waterfront zone. During busier times, people can witness vintage biplanes take off and land at the airport onshore or watch the city's Firestone Grand Prix.

The massive Weedon Island Preserve is a must-see for outdoor enthusiasts. The varied wetland and highland ecosystems here provide homes for native flora and fauna, and visitors enjoy hiking and kayaking for a day of exploration in the great outdoors.

If you love art and culture, you'll love visiting the various museums in St. Petersburg, including The Dali (Salvador Dali Museum), Museum of Fine Arts, Museum of the American Arts and Crafts Movement, Chihuly Collection, and more. St. Petersburg's museums provide a wide variety of art, history, and science exhibits, as well as modern and contemporary works, making them ideal destinations for those interested in learning and experiencing the city's rich culture.
